About Ray Swan.
I work in Buffalo New York as a television news photographer. I have several hobbies or interest
and this website serves those interest.
I do a lot of woodworking preferring to make custom furniture. Much of the furnishings in our home
were made by me. You can see most of these works on the Woodworking Page. Much of the
equipment was paid for by projects for my employer and other TV stations in the Buffalo Area.
Metal working has also been a strong interest of mine. I hand engraved firearms for several years
and did it full time for two years during the recession of the 70's. I also made custom hunting knives
for a good many years using the stock removal method. Metal interest today range from operating
a vertical mill and a 9x40 Southbend lathe. Welding/burning round out my other metal interest.
I have a 30x45 barn on the property that houses all these tools and it's a pretty nice way to while
away the day!
I was born in the Youngstown Ohio area and raised in Hubbard Ohio until we moved to Hayward
California when I was in the 7th grade. I attended Sunset High School and graduated in 1965 and
was immediately drafted into the U.S. Army. I served in Vietnam from January of 1966 until April of 1968.
If you attended Sunset High School or were in the 9th Infantry Division, 9th Admin Company I'd sure like
to hear from you. You can contact me at rayswan AT rochester.rr.com
